It is the most prominent estate of all the Bodegas d. Mateos, occupying a 15 hectare surface area where Red Tempranillo grapes are grown. More than half of the grapes are goblet trained and the rest are trained on a trellis system.
The estate is 385 meters above sea level, and the soil is clay loam, with stone and gravel areas. This soil has good drainage capacity and its resources can be managed to obtain harmonious grape ripeness.
The average age of the vineyard is 45 years, the age period which produces the grapes with the highest quality in the vineyard. Orientation is North-South, to optimise efficiency in the capture of sunlight.
Most of the field tests in collaboration with the La Rioja Research and Development Centre (CIDA) have taken place on this estate.
